To provide an environment of positive energy and support for our members mental and physical growth.
To provide inspiration of sporting excellence through our example as martial artists both in and out of the training hall.
To ensure the long-term growth of the Academy by providing exceptional student service!

Pilsung ITF was established in April 2004. We are a traditional ITF Taekwon-Do club and members of the International Taekwon-Do Federation (ITF) under the leadership of Grand Master Choi Jung Hwa. We are also members of the Irish United Taekwon-Do Federation (IUTF), we are very proudly under the direction of Master Don Dalton VII ITF.
We are also affiliated to the World Kickboxing Association (WKA) and also members of the All Styles Kickboxing Association of Ireland AKAI.

Our first club opened in Cabra, Dublin 7 in April 2004 and since then we have expanded to Finglas and Castleknock. Along the way we have trained many successful Taekwon-Do competitors, both at national and international level. We have students who have won National titles as well as European gold and World level medals. Apart from training for competition our classes are suitable for those who wish to just come for the fitness, self defence or for anyone wishing to take up a new hobby... at any age!

Taekwon-Do and sport
At Pilsung ITF we train mainly for sport. Our training is cardio based, working from aerobic training to anerobic training for top competitors. Our training will focus on striking techniques, kicks, punching and dodging. Taekwon-Do is famous for its fast and dynamic kicking, therefore we spend an amount of time perfecting these using classic kicking drills and pad work. We also work on punching drills and footwork.
Taekwon-Do patterns are also good way of keeping fit, they need a good base in balance and core strength. The beginner patterns are quite easy to learn, as the student progresses through the ranks the patterns get invariably harder which encourages the student to train harder to perfect their technique.

Taekwon-Do training is an ideal way to keep fit, stay flexible and have a bit craic in the mean time!

Self Defence
At Pilsung ITF we take Bruce Lee's concept of being a good fighter in all the different ranges. This means being able to fight within striking distance, close proximity and being able to fight on the ground. Our all round self defence concepts are learned from one of the worlds leading self defence experts, Lee Morrison. Pilsung ITF instructor, Mr Jon Mackey is an instructor under Lee Morrison and teaches his Urban Combatives reality based system. We also host various training seminars in other styles, we have recently held training seminars in Brazilian JiuJitsu, Pressure Points fighting, boxing and Hapkido. At Pilsung ITF we train our self defence classes every month with seperate specialised classes for children. Our self defence training uses functional striking and grappling techniques adopted from Taekwon-Do and trained in a functional manner.

Taekwon-Do, a way of life
At Pilsung ITF we encourage students to live a Taekwon-Do way of life. The moral code for all students to live by would be encapsulated in the five tenets of Taekwon-Do:
-Courtesy
-Integrity
-Perseverance
-Self Control
-Indomitable Spirit
Understanding these concepts allows us to lead a more peaceful life, a life in harmony with our surroundings and having a complete respect for others. Taekwon-Do philosophy is steeped in Buddhist tradition as well as confucianism which espouse tolerance and compassion as well as respect and guidance. From time to time we do meditation practice in the dojang. The type of meditation we do is (shinay) silent and is not directly linked to any type of religion. Shinay meditation is just sitting and observing the thoughts, and becoming mindful whilst developing a better understanding of the nature of our minds and the direct effect it has on our emotions.
