Red Star take over all second at the ITA Irish Cup

Well done to all the Red Star competitors who participated at the recent ITA Irish Cup. Their gallant efforts resulted in Red Star Taekwon-Do taking an over all second place at the event. This is a wonderful achievement for our club which stood toe to toe with some of the best Taekwon-Do clubs in Ireland and took second place in over all medal tallies. Out of 17 competitors Red Star took home 18 medals!
At the cadet and senior divisions on Saturday 29th May, all of our competitors reached the finals of their respective divisions and of 10 competitors we took home 4 gold and six silver. This was an important tournament for the team traveling to Korea in July as the standard at the ITA tournaments is very high. All five of the team performed exceptionally. Alvydas Jankuaskas was in fine form at his new weight of -71kg's. He won three fights to get to the final where he was pipped by a very experienced Danny Dillon (ITA). Adam Quinn made great strides in his -63kg division where met junior world champion Dylan Fitzgibbon in the final. Adam put up a great fight this time round and made great improvements. Néidín Coulahan also fought her way to the final where she was very unlucky not to get the decision against one of the ITA girls. Erika Walsh maintained her amazing winning performance as she took 2 gold's medals again. Lauren Bradshaw took gold in sparring and was unlucky not to get a decision in her patterns section where she took bronze. So a good day at the office for team Korea. Also in great form was Kate Cassidy (10) who took two gold medals also.
However, our fighters of the day go to two Taekwon-Do warriors. Both Sophie Peppard (8) and Eoghan Dunne (9) fought very tough opponents and showed amazing indomitable spirit on the day. Both fighters were awarded with special gold competitor medals for their gallant performances.

So well done to all who took part in the event and helped Red Star take an over all second place. A big thank you to our friends in the ITA for the invitation.
