Our Mission Statement

To provide a healthy and sporting environment for our communities through the positive development skills of our training.
To provide an environment of positive energy and support for our members mental and physical growth.
To provide inspiration of sporting excellence through our example as martial artists both in and out of the training hall.
To ensure the long-term growth of the Academy by providing exceptional student service!

1. The five points of the star represent the five tenets of Taekwon-Do, Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control and Indomitable spirit.
2. In human colour psychology, red is associated with brave (India), pure(India),happiness (China), good luck (China), heat, energy, and blood, and emotions that "stir the blood", including anger, passion, love, pain, and sacrifice.
3. The star represents ambition - a famous Irish person once said - "we are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the
stars!" - Oscar Wilde.

Red Star Taekwon-Do and Kickboxing is a dynamic and progressive group of clubs that train in the striking arts of Taekwon-Do and Kickboxing.
We set up in April 2004 as a small part time club operating out of a local school hall in Cabra West. As time went by, we eventually grew bigger and expanded our clubs out to four different areas. As we grew in size, we also grew in stature. Our fighters are well known on the competition circuit. Training at our club we have Irish and European champions. In July 2008, we had a record number of gold medals brought home to Dublin after we attended the ITF European championships in Italy. Similarly, in 2009 in Croatia at the ITF Europeans, we succeeded in bringing home more medals than any other Irish group.

Following on from that success, we made a decision in September 2008 to open a full time training facility in the local area. After months of hard work, sweat and toil, we eventually opened our full time training centre. The name of the centre is Synergy Martial Arts and Fitness centre. An apt name we thought, as Synergy means working together with a single plan in mind. Out of this full time centre Red Star will continue to produce top level athletes.

How we train

At Red Star we have something for everybody. Not everyone is into competing. That's a given. So with that in mind we have classes to suit everyone's taste. For those who wish to compete at kickboxing and Taekwon-Do we have classes for them, for those who just want to get fit and tone up, we have classes for them as well. For those that wish to learn Taekwon-Do the Martial Art, we have that covered too. We have classes to suit every person, at every age group from 4 years right up to 64 years and beyond. Each class is different, as different aspects are practiced, our kickboxing classes will be aerobically challenging, while learning the tools of the trade. Our Taekwon-Do classes focus on the sport applications of this famous Korean art. We also run cardio kickboxing classes for all those who want to tone up, lose weight and feel great. It's hard really to quantify all that we are and have become in a few paragraphs on the internet. We enjoy valuable local support from parents and community bodies. Your best bet is to come down and give the training a go, you'll be made feel welcome and relaxed!

Our affiliations

In order to get the best for our members in terms of certification and competitions we have been long standing members of the International Taekwon-Do Federation through the Irish organisation ITF Ireland. Through the ITF, our members have been able to represent Ireland abroad at very prestigious ITF tournaments. Our members have also trained under Master Choi Jung Hwa, Master Trevor Nicholls, Master Gallaraga, Master Dalton and Master Maidana, all original ITF Masters. All our international competitors receive full sponsorship through our fundraising activities throughout the year. In 2010 Red Star became proud members of the Taekwon-Do Advisory Board. The TAB is the government recognised body that covers all aspects of ITF Taekwon-Do through the Irish Martial Arts Commission.

Our kickboxing association is the All Styles Kickboxing Association of Ireland (AKAI ) which is the national governing body for kickboxing in Ireland and is recognised by the Irish Sport Council. AKAI also are the only kickboxing association in Ireland that provide government recognised coaching levels, child protection courses and provide a full back up service to it's members. We always seek the best organisations for our members. This helps to promote a very healthy sporting attitude to Martial Arts training. Sport Orientated Martial Artists are always at the pinnacle of their athletic ability simply because they train regular and are always up for competition.

Self Defence

At Red Star we take Bruce Lee's concept of being a good fighter in all the different ranges. This means being able to fight within striking distance, close proximity and being able to fight on the ground. Our all round self defence concepts are learned from one of the worlds leading self defence experts, Lee Morrison. Red Star instructor, Mr Jon Mackey is an instructor under Lee Morrison and teaches his Urban Combatives reality based system. We also host various training seminars in other styles, we have recently held training seminars in Brazilian JiuJitsu, Pressure Points fighting, boxing and Mixed Martial Arts. At Red Star we train our self defence classes every month with separate specialised classes for children.
